Also interesting, I saw a Tesla Model S P85D today, and the tires were surprisingly thin for what I would have expected. I also saw a Volvo S80 V8 AWD, which made me sad that they aren't made anymore.

Even Jackie is interested in his feet, it seems.

i imagine the thin tires on the tesla are to reduce rolling resistance and thereby increase mpgs. same has been said for the i8.

I thought that too, but I can't imagine rolling resistance is that good if it has enough traction to scoot to 60mph in 3.1s.

there's definitely a calculus at work here... considering the increasing contact patch with wider tires vs increased rolling resistance for mpgs and increased traction for an acceptable acceleration curve.
perhaps one of our mathematician friends here has figured out the relevant inflection points?
there are also other factors at play, like the rubber compound, and many others that i can't figure out at the moment.
